McMINNVILLE, Tenn. --

An accounting error has firefighters in McMinnville fuming.

It all started with the firefighters just wanting to know the logistics of how they got paid. Five months later, the calculation error was discovered.

According to the Southern Standard newspaper, these firefighters have been getting paid $700 more than they should have each year.

Since the early 1990s, they have been accidentally getting paid overtime pay for any hours above the standard 204 hours in their 27-day cycle, including any non-work hours. That means firefighters have been paid time-and-a-half for vacation, sick and personal days.

Administration has now fixed the error, but the firefighters aren't happy. What they'll earn now is less than they're used to.

Its unknown why the error happened in the first place.
