Ammo Explodes in Arizona Fire

PHOENIX -- A fire Saturday night destroyed a Phoenix house but it's what was inside the home that kept firefighters on edge. By the time crews got to the scene near 48th Street and Thomas Road, smoke was pouring out of the structure. Then ammunition and black powder inside started to explode, firefighters said. One person in the home suffered from minor burns.

A fire Saturday night destroyed a Phoenix house but it's what was inside the home that kept firefighters on edge.

By the time crews got to the scene near 48th Street and Thomas Road, smoke was pouring out of the structure.

Then ammunition and black powder inside started to explode, firefighters said.

One person in the home suffered from minor burns.

Police said the homeowner collected different types of military items. Besides weapons and ammo, investigators said they found empty grenade castings.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
