Pa. FF Hurt During Collapse Escape

GEORGES TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A firefighter was hurt while escaping a burning home that collapsed early Friday morning in Fayette County. Firefighters from Collier Township, Smithfield, Fairchance and Hopwood all responded to the fire along Collier Road in Georges Township "We arrived upon seeing a home that they were remodeling. We found it fully engulfed. We fought the structure fire for about half an hour and then the structure completely collapsed," said Collier Township Fire Chief Jeff Cunningham.

A firefighter was hurt while escaping a burning home that collapsed early Friday morning in Fayette County.

Firefighters from Collier Township, Smithfield, Fairchance and Hopwood all responded to the fire along Collier Road in Georges Township

"We arrived upon seeing a home that they were remodeling. We found it fully engulfed. We fought the structure fire for about half an hour and then the structure completely collapsed," said Collier Township Fire Chief Jeff Cunningham.

A firefighter injured his ankle while running from the home as the roof collapsed. An ambulance transported the firefighter to Uniontown Hospital where his name and condition have not been released.

Authorities said no one was inside the home when the blaze started.

The building has been declared a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
