BENTONVILLE, Ark. --

A Bentonville firefighter was honored Thursday for saving a young boy's life while he was off duty.

Drew Clemmons was vacationing with his fiance at a motel in Eureka, Mo., when he heard a mother screaming that her son had drowned.

Clemmons ran to help and found the 9-year-old without a pulse. He was able to revive the child by performing CPR.

At the ceremony honoring his actions, Clemmons said it just came naturally.

"We don't think twice about it," he said. "You get your fight or flight and you get your instinct to go help and it's a calling and it's a pleasure."

Officials said that without his quick response, the boy's chances of recovery would have been greatly diminished.
