Pennsylvania Fire Policeman Struck by Car

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. --

A fire police lieutenant was struck from behind by a car near the York/Adams County line Thursday morning.

A fire police officer was directing traffic at a crash scene on Route 194 (Baltimore Pike) in Washington Township when he was struck.

He was directing traffic at a crash scene on Route 194 (Baltimore Pike) in Washington Township when he was struck by a black Ford Escort driven by an 18-year-old from Dillsburg.

The fire policeman was taken to York Hospital. He suffered at least a broken leg, state police said.

The driver of the Escort slowed when he approached the scene and tried to maneuver between the fire policeman and oncoming cars.

The 18-year-old will likely face charges, state police said.

The fire policeman, who is based in East Berlin, has been with the force for about 15 years.
