One Killed, Others Jump to Escape Georgia Blaze

The fire destroyed two buildings.

WALESKA, Ga. --

One person was killed and at least two others injured Wednesday morning as a massive fire roared through a Cherokee County condo complex.

Some residents jumped to safety from balconies.

Firefighters said they found the body of a 28-year-old woman in the rubble of one of the units.

A 34-year-old man with second- and third-degree burns was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital. He also suffered a possible broken ankle when he jumped from his condo.

A 57-year-old woman suffered first- and second-degree burns in the fire on Mountain View Court; she was taken to Northside Hospital.

One resident was unaccounted for at 7:30 a.m.

The fire destroyed two buildings containing at least eight condo units.

Vehicles in the condo parking lot also were destroyed.
