NORTH MIAMI, Fla. --
Miami-Dade firefighters are trying to determine what sparked a fire that destroyed a South Florida performing arts center early Wednesday morning.
Neighbors told Local 10 they were awakened by a large explosion moments before the fire started in the Performing Arts Network Studios & School, located at 13126 West Dixie Highway.
When firefighters arrived just before 5:00 a.m., thick smoke and flames poured from the building and broken glass covered West Dixie Highway, which had to be shut down in both directions. The business sustained extensive damage. The North Miami Chamber of Commerce, which is next door to the Performing Arts Center, was not damaged.
A fire inspector has been called to the scene because firefighters believe they have "reason to investigate further."
