SAN ANTONIO --
Heavy machinery ruptured a 24-inch natural gas line that exploded into flames at a construction site on the city's far north side Wednesday morning.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, which started at 10:30 a.m. and burned for nearly 90 minutes near the intersection of Huebner and Blanco roads.
Flames shot dozens of feet into the air. The intense fire charred a car that was parked at a CVS Pharmacy and the store's sign was melted.
San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said that residents in the area should expect to be without utilties while crews clean up the area.
Hood said at one point, natural gas was shooting out of the main at a rate of 800 psi per second.
Firefighters had to allow the main to bleed itself of the natural gas that it contained.
