Three Hurt in New Hampshire Fire

Access to the house was difficult on the dead end street.

MANCHESTER, N.H. --

A multi-family home is destroyed after an overnight fire in Manchester.

The fire started around 12:30 a.m. at 72 Vernon St. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from most of the building. There were also initial reports that someone could be trapped inside the building, but firefighters found that everyone made it out.

Manchester District Fire Chief Mark Pelletier said the location of the home made it a difficult fire to fight. The home is located on a dead end street, which limited access to the home.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 40 minutes. Three people were taken to Elliot Hospital for evaluation.

Fire officials believe the fire was caused by an unattended candle at the rear of the home. Twelve people are now displaced because of the fire. The damage to the building is estimated at $100,000.
