MILWAUKEE --
A Milwaukee school is damaged after an apparent lightning strike.
Firefighters said smoke could be seen wafting from the steeple atop Dr. Martin Luther King Elementary at Third Street and Ring Avenue.
Fire crews were called to the school at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Neighbors at a nearby convenience store said they heard the thunder clap, and felt it shake the building.
"It was just loud. I knew it had hit something. So I looked out. I thought it hit the building. I know it had hit something," Mildred Bradford said.
Firefighters are investigating the incident as a lightning strike.
There is no word on damage estimates or on how the damage will affect classes on Monday.
