Husband, Wife Killed in Ohio House Fire

Firefighters found the wife, who was confined to a wheelchair, near the door.

ELYRIA, OH --

A husband and wife were killed in fire early Saturday.

The fire broke out just after midnight in the 300 block of Hawthorne Street.

Neighbors said smoke was pouring from the home. They said it was too thick to get inside the home.

Firefighters found the wife near the door, but couldn't make it out. Neighbors said she was confined to a wheelchair.

The fire caused an extensive amount of damage to the house.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire. Fire officials are investigating.
