DES MOINES, Iowa --

A Des Moines man was taken to the hospital after being pinned under his vehicle while he was working on it.

Des Moines rescue crews were called to 1626 E. Park Ave. just before 7 a.m. Tuesday

Police said a man was trapped between the body and dump box of the truck he was working on. He was working alone on the vehicle and was discovered in the driveway by his wife, officials said.

Des Moines Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Steve Brown said firefighters used a spreader to free the man.

Police said the man was alert and breathing before being transported to Methodist Medical Center.

The man's name and condition have not yet been released.
