Two Mo. Firefighters Burned Battling Apartment Fire
KANSAS CITY, MO. --
A Sunday morning vacant apartment fire that required the help of seven fire companies left two firefighters with serious burns.
The fire occurred at 30th Street and Highland Avenue.
The firefighters were taken to the University of Kansas hospital. One firefighter suffered serious burns to his hands, while another firefighter had burns to his extremities, according to fire officials.
The fire started around 10 a.m. at the two-story apartment building.
The burns came when one firefighter was overcome by smoke and a second firefighter had to rescue him. Firefighters tried to fight the fire on the second floor, but were forced to retreat when the fire progressed too far.
The fire was contained by 10:30 a.m., according to fire officials.
