UNION COUNTY, Miss. -- A volunteer firefighter was charged with setting a fatal fire, according to WCBI-TV.

William Cody Lambert, 22, of Guntown, Miss. was arrested on two counts of arson and charged with capital murder in the death of 88-year-old Myrtle Mae Owen. Lambert is a member of three volunteer fire departments, according to the report.

Two house fires were reported, a mile apart, on Highway 9 in the Alpine community shortly before 1 a.m. on Sept. 5. One fire occurred at an abandoned house and the other at Owen's residence.

The investigators made the arrest after a number of interviews and taking statements from Lambert and he is expected to make a court appearance this week, the report said.
