NEW HAVEN, Conn. --

A four-alarm blaze broke out at a New Haven flower shop Monday morning.

The fire was reported at Lincoln Flower Shop on East Grand Avenue just after 6 a.m.

New Haven police said members of neighboring fire departments were called to the blaze.

Six apartment units located above a wine shop next to the flower shop were evacuated, and power was cut off to the neighborhood.

The fire caused officials to close East Grand Avenue. They said they expected the road to remain closed for seven to eight hours.

The fire chief said that he was unsure whether the business was a total loss, but said the age of the building was making it difficult to battle the blaze. He said the fire began in the basement and spread into the walls.

No injuries were reported.
