MONONGAHELA, Pa. --

Three businesses caught on fire following an early-morning explosion in Monongahela, Washington County.

At least seven fire departments were dispatched to the 200 block of West Main Street at about 5:30 a.m.

Dispatch officials said they received multiple reports of explosions at Vocelli's Pizza.

The fire spread to the apartments above Vocelli's and to the adjacent businesses, Hufnagel Computers and the Bee's Nest Cafe.

Officials said everyone got out of the buildings safely.

Witnesses told Channel 11 News they saw the windows of the cafe blow out after hearing the initial explosion.

About 8:30 a.m., while crews were dousing hot spots, a firefighter from the New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department was injured when the 100-foot ladder he was on snapped.

The firefighter was attached to a harness, so he did not fall to the ground.

He was taken to Mon Valley Hospital for his injuries.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
