INDIANAPOLIS --

Lawrence Township Trustee Mike Hobbs will be removed from office after he was convicted Monday of official misconduct.

Hobbs received a suspended sentence and will have to perform 80 hours of community service. He pleaded guilty to using a $500 Castleton Volunteer Fire Department check to pay his rent in 2007.

Hobbs had told the fire department that the check was going to be used for a charitable contribution.

Hobbs, who was elected in 2006, was almost immediately in hot water. He was charged with drunken driving earlier in 2007 before the official misconduct case.
