BURTONSVILLE, Md. -- Firefighters in Montgomery County are battling a 2-alarm townhouse fire that has jumped to a second home.

Captain Oscar Garcia, spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, tells 9NEWS NOW the blaze was first reported around 4:44 Friday morning in the 2000 block of Featherwood Street. Firefighters arriving on scene found fire showing from the rear deck area of the 2-story town house. The blaze quickly spread through the 1st and 2nd floors, eventually extending to both the attic and the basement. Garcia says part of the roof structure has collapsed.

Garcia says the fire extended to the townhouse next door but now has been brought under control. It took approximately 70 to 75 firefighters about 40 minutes to handle the blaze.

Garcia says all residents escaped the homes safely. The Red Cross has been requested to help two families that have been displaced.

According to Garcia, three firefighters received minor burn injuries to the ears and neck were transported to Medstar for treatment. They are in good condition.
