LAKEWOOD, Colo. --

Two people were dead in a Lakewood house fire that broke out Tuesday night.

West Metro firefighters got the 911 call around 9 p.m. and when they arrived at the home at West 14th Avenue and Pierce Street, the home was engulfed in flames.

"We made our initial attack into the home and found the first victim. Then firefighters continued making their way through the house and found the second victim," said West Metro Fire spokeswoman Cindy Matthews.

It's not known if the fire caused the deaths or if the two were dead before the fire started, Matthews said. A fire station is located just two blocks away so firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly.

Lakewood police investigators as well as arson investigators are now at the home, looking into whether or not foul play was involved. The coroner will determine the victims' cause of death.

No evacuations were necessary and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
