Deputies say a man from Idaho was injured in a boat explosion at the Scappoose Bay Marina.

ST. HELENS, Ore. --

An explosion injured one man at the Scappoose Bay Marina on Tuesday.

A LifeFlight helicopter rushed 25-year-old Josh Gifford to a hospital after the explosion near St. Helens.

Gifford, who lives in Idaho, suffered burns in the incident, said Sheriff Jeff Dickerson in a Columbia County Sheriff's Office news release. His condition is unknown.

Deputies aren't sure what caused the explosion. Dickerson said Gifford was working in the cabin as the boat was idling and tied to the dock.

"Several witnesses saw Mr. Gifford leap into the water," Dickerson said.

The 24-foot Tolly Craft vessel was used as part of a gillnet operation on the Columbia River. It began taking on water during the sheriff's office investigation and firefighters had to remove it from the water.

The incident is still under investigation by sheriff's deputies and the Coast Guard.
