Lightning may have sparked the fire that destroyed several businesses.

BROWNSTOWN, Ind. --

A historic block of businesses across from the Jackson County Courthouse in Brownstown caught fire Monday evening.

The Seymour Tribute reported that the fire started around 5 p.m. just after a string of storms passed through, and was still burning three hours later.

Fire officials speculated Monday night that the blaze may have been sparked by lightning.

Flowers by Connie, a floral and gift shop just west of B & R, was also destroyed. Bessies Bargain Budget, Wide Variety on the Square, Indiana Bank and Trust, Hackmans Barber Shop and Brocks Restaurant were also damaged.

Two firefighter were treated for heat, but no one was seriously injured.
