ORTING, Wash. --

A home in Puyallup was devastated by a stubborn fire that broke out early Thursday.

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to the fire at 3:15 a.m. in the area of 135th Avenue and 159th Street Court East in Puyallup above the Orting Ridge. Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames and the roof partially collapsed.

After the fire appeared to be put out, hours later firefighters brought in a second truck when the fire flared up again.

Video from Chopper 7 showed a smoky plume rising into the air and flames shooting from both the roof and side of the home.

Central Pierce Fire spokesman Stephanie Glass said the fire appears to have been started from the home's exterior but the cause has not been determined.

One man, who was house -sitting, escaped without injury.

The homeowners are on vacation in Canada.

The house is considered a complete loss with damage estimated at $350,000. Three vintage cars were recovered from the garage.
