FORT COLLINS, Colo. --
A man and his dog owe their lives to the quick action of some firefighters.
The Poudre Fire Authority rescued both a man and one of his pets from a burning house on Saturday afternoon in Fort Collins.
Firefighters responded to 1318 Woodcrest Court and were greeted by a house fully involved in flames.
Firefighters learned of a man who lived at the address, who went back into the burning structure to rescue a pet. The man became trapped in an upstairs bathroom.
Crews rescued the man, who was later treated at Poudre Valley Hospital for minor injuries, said Poudre Fire Authority spokesman Holger Durre.
While searching the house, firefighters discovered a trapped dog with their infrared goggles. The dog was unresponsive when crews rescued it.
However, paramedics at the scene intubated the dog and transported it to Colorado State University Veterinary Hospital.
Durre said the yellow Labrador retriever was conscious and wagging its tail by Saturday night.
Durre said the fire appears to have begun on the exterior of the house. Investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze.
