Sorghum Burns in Indiana

The massive blaze destroyed the century-old building.

SHERIDAN, Ind. --

A huge fire that engulfed a sorghum business in northern Hamilton County late Friday morning marks the end for the nearly 100-year-old company, the owners said.

Firefighters from several agencies were called to Pickett's Autumn Gold Sorghum on 236th Street in Sheridan just after noon.

Smoke was visible from several miles away, and fire crews had to call in several additional tankers to help them battle the blaze. No one was injured.

Janice Pickett told 6News that this would have been the company's 94th year of making sorghum, but that they have no insurance, so they will not be able to rebuild.

Fire crews were still at the scene Friday evening dousing hotspots.
