South Carolina Woman Shot Before House Fire

Authorities said they are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found during a house fire as a homicide.

Frances Hammond Earle, 74, was found dead in the bathroom of her home in Seneca on Saturday, said Karl Addis, Oconee County coroner.

Addis said an autopsy performed on Sunday found that she had died from a gunshot wound to the head. Its believed she may have died late on July 7.

Firefighters were originally called to Earles home at 115 Brookwood Drive at about noon on Saturday. The body was found in the bathroom after the flames were extinguished.

The death is being investigated by the Oconee County Sheriff's Department.
