HIALEAH, Fla. --

A firefighter was taken to a hospital Wednesday morning after battling a blaze at a home in Hialeah.

The fire broke out just before 10 a.m. at a home in an apartment complex in the 5300 block of 22nd Court. Firefighters arrived to find the entire back yard engulfed in flames, and the fire spread to both the first and second floors of the home.

The fire was so intense that it started to burn a neighboring house, as well.

Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire. They also rescued five dogs and a cat from the burning home. The animals were not injured during the blaze.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital due to the smoke. He is expected to be OK.

Fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire. It might have begun in the back yard, but fire officials will not say for sure.
