Cluttered Basement Slows Nebraska Firefighters

The many items fueled the fire.

OMAHA, Neb. --

A cluttered basement complicated firefighters' efforts Monday at a house fire near 40th and Binney streets.

A neighbor called for help around noon at the first signs of smoke. It took firefighters 40 minutes to douse the flames. Items stored in the basement contributed to the flames' fuel and also obstructed firefighters.

No one was hurt. Fire officials have not given a cause for the fire.
