SANFORD, Fla. --

A utility worker was trapped in a drain after falling 20 feet into water and raw sewage.

A Sanford city worker fell into the drain and bumped his head on the way down, losing consciousness temporarily.

Rescue crews brought in a platform to stand on and built a crane-like machine to lift him out of the drain after lowering two firefighters into the hole to put a strap on the man.

The man was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for cuts and bruises. Doctors are concerned about infections from swimming in the sewage.
