STOCKTON, Calif. --
Winds pushed flames of a two-alarm fire at a Stockton grocery store as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Firefighters were called to the Hi and Bye Market on the 500 block of West Harding Way at about 1:45 p.m. Friday.
The interior walls collapsed, but firefighters were all pulled out of the building before the collapse.
"Our crews went in there with zero visibility, smoke down to the floor, in a maze basically," Paul Willette from the Stockton Fire Department said. "Because of the type of construction of the building, we had to pull them out of the building and go defensive in our operations just for their safety."
Embers strewn to a nearby business and a school started smaller fires.
Some nearby businesses closed for safety reasons.
Nobody was hurt during the blaze.
Fire officials said although a cause has not been determined; children were seen playing behind the building before the blaze began.
