CASTROVILLE, Calif. --
A vehicle accident started a blaze Wednesday that gutted a large barn and caused the evacuation of at least one home.
The fire broke out at about 12:57 p.m. on Castroville Boulevard.
At least one person was taken to a local hospital with injuries, North Monterey County fire officials said. There is no word on the victim's identity or the extent of their injuries.
CalFire said the blaze consumed a total of 15 acres and was contained as of 2:30 p.m. By 6 p.m. firefighters were mopping up hot spots.

Castroville Boulevard remained closed in both directions from Archer Road to San Miguel Canyon Road as crews worked to contain the fire.
Also, nearby Elkhorn Elementary School was placed on a safety lockdown during the fire.
