Landlocked Florida Department Needs Boat
MALABAR, Fla. --
A local fire department is landlocked by its own resources.
Malabar firefighters cover an area that includes waterways and three islands, but the fire department doesn't have a boat.
Melbourne and Cocoa Beach are the only one of Brevard County's 14 waterfront cities that have boats.
When an accident happens on the water, the call often goes out to responders who have no way to get there.
The Malabar Fire Department wants to put civilian volunteers who have boats on call, so the next time that department is called to a water rescue, they'll have a way to get there.
