MIDLAND, N.C. --
Crews are working hard to clean up an ethanol spill in Cabarrus County.
A tanker hauling ethanol overturned near the intersection of Garmon Mill Road and Hopewell Church Road in Midland Friday morning. No one was hurt in the accident.
Emergency responders evacuated residences and businesses within half a mile of the spill and cleaning crews are now working to contain the spill. They dammed up the leak on the truck so the ethanol will not spread into a nearby creek.
Crews will pump the ethanol that remains in the tank into another truck.
About 100 firefighters are working on the case. Firefighters are wearing heavy gear and are being cautious to avoid overheating. Medic is on the scene with a mass casualty bus to provide air conditioning and other supplies for the firefighters.
