LAKE COUNTY, Fla. --

A Lake County firefighter is being treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center after he was injured when a ceiling collapsed on top of him while he was battling a house fire.

The fire started Tuesday night in a home on New York Avenue in Astatula when a pot was left on the stove.

Firefighters were trying to pull insulation and tiles down when part of the ceiling collapsed.

"I thought it was just smoky. I thought they had put the fire out, but it was still in the wall and in the attic," eyewitness Dixie Koval said.

The firefighter was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center after he said he had neck and head pain.

Firefighters were able to rescue a dog from the burning home.
