Four Firefighters Hurt at Indianapolis Blaze
INDIANAPOLIS --
It took firefighters nearly two hours to get a two-alarm business fire on Indianapolis' east side under control Monday.
The fire started before at about 10:45 a.m. at 6923 Brookville Road, near Shadeland Avenue, in a building occupied by MS Inspection and Logistics.
Employees told fire officials that they heard a loud popping noise coming from the ceiling near a light fixture before they noticed the fire.
By the time firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was pouring from the building as flames shot through the roof.
About 70 firefighters battled the blaze, including some from Indianapolis, Beech Grove and Franklin Township.
A firefighter was separated from the others briefly, but he was found quickly. Four other firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the blaze. Two were taken to Methodist Hospital -- one with a cut on his face, the other for overheating -- and two were treated at the scene.
All eight employees were able to get out of the building safely.
The building houses the company's headquarters. MS Inspection also has offices on Indianapolis' northwest side and in Kentucky, Ohio and Alabama, according to its Web site.
Fire officials said the fire caused about $500,000 in damage to the building.
