BRANDENBURG, Ky. --

At least five firefighters were injured after their fire truck overturned in Meade County.

As of 11 p.m., four of the five were still being treated at University Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Dispatchers said the crash happened at about 6:20 p.m. Monday along Highway 448.

Battalion commanders said that Engine Company 42 was dispatched to a crash at 6:09 p.m. A person was said to be trapped inside a vehicle along Gaines Road near Highway 1638.

While trying to get to the crash, the driver of Engine 42 somehow lost control and the fire truck overturned, landing in a ditch along Highway 448.

There were five firefighters on board -- all volunteers -- officers said.

All five of the firefighters were flown to local hospitals via medical helicopters and were conscious during transport.

Other fire rescue units were able to make it to the original crash and rescue the person inside.

Units from the Payneville, Ekron, Flaherty and Muldraugh helped rescue the injured firefighters.

Fire officials said the fire truck is the oldest in the county's fleet.
