RICHLAND, N.Y. -- Eight people from the same family were killed Sunday morning in a fire at a home in the Town of Richland. One member of the family was able to make it out safely.

Investigators have not released the names of the victims yet, but say four of the victims were young boys. They were 8 months, 20 months, 6 years and 10 years old. They were all brothers.

Several fire departments were called to 1132 County Route 48 around 3 AM after a neighbor and the family member living in the basement of the home reported the fire. When the firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.

Investigators say the man living in the basement attempted to save the other members of his family from the fire, but the heat and flames were too intense.

There were no working smoke detectors inside the home, according to the fire investigator.
