HOUSTON --

Three children who were allegedly left home alone were hurt when the house caught fire, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The fire broke out at a home on Marcella Court near West Tidwell Road early Thursday.

Five children were staying at the home with their grandparents. Three of them, ages 9, 8 and 6 were in bed while the grandfather took two younger children to a store.

The grandfather returned to the home about 10 minutes later to find it on fire. Firefighters were already there, battling the flames.

Firefighters rescued the children, but they were injured. Two were taken to a hospital in San Antonio for treatment for sever burns and another was taken to Texas Children's Hospital with smoke inhalation.

Officials have not said if the grandparents will face any charges.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears it started in the kitchen.
