Pennsylvania City's First Woman Firefighter To Take Top Job

A woman will soon be second in command of the Lancaster Bureau of Fire.

LANCASTER, Pa. --

A woman will soon be second in command of the Lancaster Bureau of Fire.

Capt. Susan Warchola will become the city's deputy fire chief.

She was sworn in by Mayor Rick Gray on Tuesday.

Warcola joined the force in 1983 as the first woman firefighter in the city's history.

Warcola will replace Deputy Chief Lloyd Henry who will retire in April after serving for 36 years.
