Pennsylvania Firefighter Struck at Fire Scene

MONROEVILLE, Pa. --

A car struck a firefighter attending to a significant storefront fire in Monroeville overnight, officials said.

WTAE Channel 4 Action News learned that a storefront adjacent to the Jonnet building ignited into flames minutes before midnight Tuesday.

Two alarms were called and the scene remained active through the next couple hours as crews worked to extinguish the flames, a WTAE Channel 4 Action News crew reported from the scene at about 12:30 a.m.

Emergency officials told WTAE Channel 4 Action News that a car struck a firefighter at the scene. The extent of the firefighter's injuries were not immediately known.

The fire prompted officials to close a portion of Business U.S. Route 22 in the area between Center Road and Northern Pike during the firefighters' efforts.
