Tones sounded on the afternoon of Jan. 12 in Henrico County for a man dangling from a flagpole at the Pearson Chrysler car dealership in the 8000 block of Broad St..
Initially dispatched were Engine 22, Truck 12 and Battalion Chief #1. The call was quickly upgraded and added was a Fire Medic unit and the on-duty Heavy/Tactical rescue team.
First on scene was Battalion Chief # 1 who confirmed a contractor on the flagpole that had slipped in his climbing device and was hanging on to a rope, clinging to the flagpole.
Truck 12 arrived shortly thereafter and spotted the platform for the rescue.
Rescuers quickly and carefully freed the dangling victim,placed him in the platform and lowered him to safety.
The Heavy/Tactical rescue team was cancelled on the scene and returned to service.
Officials said once on the ground Henrico Fire medics assessed patient and he refused transport to the hospital, he was then released on his own accord. The patient was approximately 75 ft. up on the flagpole that was 125 ft. tall.
