YORK, Pa. --

Six people were rescued from their burning home Wednesday morning in York.

The Moreta family's dog alerted them to the fire in the 700 block of West Princess Street at about 5 a.m., firefighters said.

The family climbed out of a window and were rescued from the porch roof.

"What was worst is that our dog came up to wake us up and my wife was holding the dog and then the dog saw me and it got scared and jumped down and then they found the dog at the bottom of the stairs," said Diogene Moreta.

The dog died.

There's no word on a cause.
