Flames were reported in the bay of the New Sharon Fire Company station on the 1800 block of Delsea Drive at about 10:30 p.m.

A fast acting firefighter was able to rescue an engine inside the burning building by driving through the bay door, officials said. Despite the efforts, officials are not sure if the engine will be serviceable.

Deptford Fire Chief Stephen Hubbs said a second ladder truck that would normally be in the bay was spared as it was in a nearby body shop getting some paint work.

Crews were also able to salvage some equipment and an antique fire extinguisher, but a four-wheel brush truck was not able to be saved.

Damages from the fire are estimated at over $400,000.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
