HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- At least one firefighter was injured in a mid-morning fire at Maryland Metal off Pennsylvania Avenue.

Fire crews arrived on the scene around 10:30 to find the metal warehouse fully engulfed in flames.

Battalion Chief Randy Myers told NBC 25 that when fire crews arrived just after 10:30, "[Crews] already had heavy fire coming through the roof of the structure.

The metal structure-- especially the roof -- was unstable. For that reason, crews were not allowed on the roof to fight the blaze.

At least one firefighter was taken to Washington County Hospital with unknown injuries. Officials say his injuries resulted from a fall inside the building. There were reports of another injury, but they have not yet been confirmed.

The fire was under control in under an hour; but crews say the heavy winds made it difficult to fight.

"Right before the fire we had gotten some reports from the weather center that we are receiving like 47 mile per hour gusts, and yeah, that definitely made it difficult," Myers said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
