A construction worker was rescued from a high rise building in downtown Miami after he was knocked unconscious Wednesday evening.

Miami Fire-Rescue crews said the man, 43, was working at the hotel under construction, the Metropolitan Two, in Southeast 3rd Ave. and 3rd St., when an iron bar hit the man on his hard hat. The man fell to the ground, hit his head on the concrete and was knocked out.

Firefighters said they did not want to use a ladder to bring the worker down from the 19th floor to the 14th floor so they decided to use the crane at the construction site to bring the man down Thursday morning.

Miami Fire-Rescue lieutenant Ignatius Carroll said using the crane was the best option.

"When the fire crew arrived we realized that the construction site was going up about 19 stories high," he said. "The elevator only goes to the 14th floor," a rescue worker said.

The man was lowered to the ground by a Miami firefighter before he was placed on a stretcher and rushed to the emergency room.

The man was awake when he was brought to Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is in stable condition, NBC 6's Steve Litz reported.

An investigation was launched.
