California Man Rescued After Construction Site Mishap
SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
An injured worker was rescued by firefighters Tuesday after falling off a ladder deep inside a trench at a south Sacramento construction site.
Rescuers were called at 8:36 a.m. to the Freeport Regional Water Project site along Freeport Boulevard just south of the Pocket area, Sacramento Fire Department Capt. Jim Doucette said.
The man, who was not immediately identified but was said to be in his 30s, was working near the bottom of the 40-foot-deep trench when the mishap occurred, Doucette said.
The man, who did not fall very far, suffered a possible broken collarbone and some other minor injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital.
Doucette said the man was alert and talking during his rescue.
The water project is a joint venture of the Sacramento County Water Agency and the Oakland-based East Bay Municipal Utility District to supply water from the Sacramento River to customers in Sacramento County and the East Bay.
