Vision 20/20 Report Released
Fire prevention must be a year round effort if the nation is going to turn the tide.
Topics vital to saving lives and reducing property loss are outlined in the Vision 20/20 National Strategies for Fire Loss Prevention report released today.
Six months ago, nearly 500 people interested in bringing fire prevention to the national level met in Washington, D.C.
Fittingly, their report is being issued during National Fire Prevention Week.
Strategies identified in the document include:
Increase Advocacy for Fire Prevention
Conduct a national fire safety education/social marketing campaign
Raise the importance of fire prevention within the fire service
Promote technology to enhance fire and life safety
Refine and improve the application of codes and standards that enhance public and firefighter safety and preserve community assets
The project was funded by a DHS Fire Prevention and Safety Grant to the Institution of Fire Engineers USA Branch.
In a prepared statement, Jim Crawford, Vision 20/20 project manager said: "Guiding each strategy will be experts in the field of fire safety that have a proven track record of developing consensus and bringing together different organizations to achieve a common goal. This collaborative effort, which has been our guiding principal from the beginning, will continue throughout the course of this project."
