Ocala Firefighter Chris Hickman happened to be on duty earlier this year when he and his partner witnessed a vehicle accident. Almost immediately they arrived on scene and jumped into action.

A vehicle had overturned and a woman's arm was trapped under the vehicle. Recognizing that seconds counted, firefighter Hickman physically lifted the overturned vehicle off the ground so that the patient's arm could be moved.

His partner Donna Shirey and other firefighters who arrived on scene then were able to safely treat the patient and remove her using the Jaws of Life extrication tools.

Today the Mutual Liberty Insurance Company presented their prestigious Firemark award to firefighter Chris Hickman for his quick action in helping to save a life. The ceremony took place at the annual kickball tournament which was held at the Rotary Sports Complex.

On hand to congratulate firefighter Hickman was Fire Chief Dan Gentry and Hickman's family.
