DENVER --

Rescue crews saved two dogs that fell through the ice at a pond at Chatfield Reservoir, authorities said Saturday.

A witness saw the dogs wander onto the frozen ponds and fall through the ice around 1 p.m., said Littleton Fire spokesman Brian Cronin.

"Rescue crews saved the first dog from the ice, four minutes after arriving. Six minutes later, its canine buddy was also rescued," Cronin said.

The dogs were dried off with a blanket and handed back to the owner.

Littleton Fire Capt. Doug Ireland said the incident is a good reminder to stay off ice ponds.

"The ice is definitely unstable," Ireland said. "It is not that thick yet this year."
