Indiana House Fire Claims Man

Firefighters said they didn't find any working smoke detectors in the house.

CARMEL, Ind. --

An elderly man was killed Saturday morning in a fire at his Carmel home.

Neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from a home in the 3700 block of West 98th Street, at about 9:30 a.m.

Firefighters broke down the door when the arrived. Inside, they found the body of Truman Moyer, 83.

Moyer was taken to St. Vincent Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Firefighters said they didn't find any working smoke detectors in the house. The fire's cause was under investigation.
