The fire went out of control and firefighters worked tirelessly to put it out battling thick smoke.

A Lumberton family of four is homeless after a fire rages through their home just off U.S. Highway 69 west early on the evening of Thursday, January 15, 2009.

Authorities believe the fire was caused by an accident involving a wood burning heater.

The amazing video of a firefighter putting his life on the line was captured by our own KBMT camera crew can be seen by clicking on "watch this video."

The fire began around 6p.m. and the flames had been extinguished by 7p.m.

Family members tell KBMT 12 News that a 15-year-old walked in, smelled smoke, and woke up his mom and older sister.
